Build a Kit

No matter who you are or where you live, a disaster can strike at any time. Whether it’s a snowstorm, wildfire, drought, landslide, home fire, tornado, cyber-incident, terrorist attack, flood, or earthquake – being prepared makes all the difference.

Below is a list of items to consider including in an emergency kit to help keep you and your family safe. Keep a kit at home, at work, in your car, and anywhere else you may need to grab it and go.

The basics include:

  • Water
  • Non-perishable food
  • Batter-powered or hand-crank radio
  • Flashlight
  • Extra batteries
  • First-aid kit

Once the basic kit is ready, add items based on the unique needs of your household. Think about:

  • Prescription medications
  • Important documents
  • Pet supplies
  • Infant care items
  • Personal hygiene products
  • Extra clothing or blankets

Every person and situation is different, so it’s important to build a kit that fits your family’s needs.
