Drinking and/or playing in irrigation water can be risky for you, your children, and pets. Irrigation water is untreated and can have harmful bacteria such as E. coli. To prevent getting sick,
DO NOT DRINK IRRIGATION WATER
If you don’t know where your water comes from, contact your local City Public Works office with any questions about your water source.
DO NOT USE IRRIGATION WATER FOR PLAY
Using irrigation water for slip-and-slides, inflatable bounce houses, kiddie pools, or playing in sprinklers, etc., can increase you and your family’s risk of getting sick from bacteria like E. coli.
If you notice any of the following symptoms, contact a healthcare provider:
Bloody diarrhea
Persistent diarrhea
Fever
Nausea
Vomiting
E. coli can be transmitted from person to person. Good handwashing and hygiene help to prevent the spread. If you have questions about watering your garden or eating produce from your garden, please visit this article from USU Extension.
